Chunqin's design creats an new pass way from studio to libray by extending and connecting two thresholds. From the plan view we can see that Chunqin tried to make the passway fit the existing entrance of building and his design change the way people move in coutyard by blocking part of the original way.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, colorful drawing may be helpful to give pople a vivid feeling of how your design works. And the passway can be improved to make it more beautiful by adding some curving lines or adding some color.
Chun's Trashold idea focusses on creating direction and controlling the journey of people from the courtyard in to the studio. I liked how Chun continued his installation into the building to strengthen his idea of progression. I also liked how the threshold presented a certain concentration into the studio space.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Chun could have thought more about the movement of people the other way around (from studio to the courtyard.) as this is another important threshold. Another question is his choice of materials for his threshold, what is the significance of this choice?
The design effectively functions as you have conceptualized, creating the notion of drawing people in through its funnel like shape. The question remains as Angela has outlined, it functions for one direction, to one destination only. The courtyard is busy hub for students traveling to and from the School of Architecture in all different direction. Entries surround the entire courtyard so could be an important aspect to consider if the design was developed further. The idea of "distraction" can also be argued against. If a student wants to eat lunch in the courtyard they may feel like they should't be beyond the bounds of the structure - sometimes is is most appropriate to be out of the studio, the focal point of your structure. Use of copy transfers with acetone in presentation has been used well and assists an artistic, emotive portrayal of your idea.
